Sociology
Key Stage 5 (Years 12 & 13)
This AQA A-Level Sociology course offers an engaging and effective introduction to Sociology, encouraging students to develop a sociological imagination by exploring and questioning the world around them. In year 12 students study Education, Research Methods and Families and Households. In year 13 students will study Crime and Deviance, Research Methods and Beliefs in Society. The examinations at the end of year 13 will consist of three papers that are used to determine the final A-level grade.
Trips and Field Work
In year 12 students visit the Bethlem Museum of the Mind to explore the lives and achievements of people with mental health issues.
Students regularly participate in field work to carry out participant observations of students in the prep school and also examine the differences in behaviour between girls and boys in the pre-prep setting.
Students have the opportunity to attend the Tutor 2 U revision conference in year 13 to revise the course completed so far and to embed teachings of sociological perspectives.
Clubs
Mock Trial and Debate Club is an excellent extra curricular activity for any sociologist as they seek to strengthen their evaluation skills.
