Reception

Our Reception class is a very exciting and lively place to be. The children build on their academic, social, emotional and physical development. Their confidence and independence is developed further as tasks are devised to challenge and inspire learning in a cooperative, caring and positive environment. Our well resourced outdoor area provides endless learning opportunities for our children and promotes keen explorers, excited about learning.

The EYFS curriculum is divided into seven areas of learning and is continued after nursery. A range of activities are offered to support a well-rounded experience covering:

Prime Areas

  • Personal, Social and Emotional development
  • Physical development
  • Communication and Language

Specific Areas

  • Literacy
  • Mathematics
  • Understanding the World
  • Expressive Arts and Design

Continued from nursery, the children in our Reception class participate in all Religious Education lessons. Our children attend whole school masses, Junior and whole school assemblies, services, our Harvest Festival and our May Procession. The EYFS as a whole, celebrates it's unique cohesion with EYFS assemblies in our school chapel. The highlight of our Junior calendar is our Christmas nativity play.

Pupils take part in specialist subject areas of the curriculum such as Music, PE, Computing and French, which are taught by charismatic, specialist staff - a benefit of being a whole-through school.

Children in Reception attend Forest School one session a week for a whole morning or afternoon. A wonderful enhancement to their curriculum, enabling the children to explore nature in all weathers, learn about the environment, manage risk and challenge and build on resilience.

Phonics and early reading is supported using Read, Write, Inc and more details can be found here.

Trips

Learning also takes place outside of the classroom environment, pupils attend exciting and enhancing school trips aimed to enrich their education.
